Pants Thief to Police: "I Know Why You Are Here"

The latest from Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows.

Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows relates the story of a "Crook with a Conscience" in his latest "The Front Row" newsletter.

Sgt. Tim Samuelson from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office assisted the Hastings Police Department last week on a call about a fight in a store's parking lot.

Upon arriving, the officers did not find a fight, but Samuelson noticed a group of several young men in a car in the parking lot. He went to the group and asked them if they knew "what was going on."

The driver of the car then said to Samuelson, "I know why you are here."

In the next moment, the man took out three pairs of pants that were hidden under his shirt. The pants were stolen from the nearby store.

The Hastings Police Department is handling the theft case, and the fight remained unsolved.
