No Injuries in Two Separate Lakeville House Fires Thursday

Crews were battling first house fire when call for second fire came in.

It was an intense day yesterday for Lakeville Firefighters who fought two separate house fires at the same time.

No injuries were reported in either fire, and both are still under investigation according to the .

According to the fire department, the first call came just after noon on Thursday, when a neighbor reported seen smoke and flames coming from the attic and rear of a home located 18276 Ixonia Ave. The home was unoccupied at the time of the blaze which fully engulfed the home shortly after arrival of nine fire trucks from Lakeville and Apple Valley, which offered mutual aid.

By 12:14 p.m., the roof had collapsed on the home, the Lakeville Fire Department said.

Crews stayed on scene until after 9 p.m. but the house was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Meanwhile, as Lakeville's fire crews were battling that fire, a second fire was reported at 6:18 p.m. by an alarm company, for a home at 17855 Layton Path. The report came after the alarm system was activated in the home, the fire department said.

The homeowner had already smelled smoke and left the house when the alarm system sounded, and all four Lakeville stations responded.

According to Lakeville fire, when crews arrived, they found heavy smoke in the lower level fitness area. In all, the fire was contained to two rooms which received extensive smoke and heat damage.

Three cats in the lower level were found behind a door. Firefighters and medics gave oxygen to the cats, who suffered from smoke inhalation. All three cats were revived.

The fire department says the home is uninhabitable due to smoke and heat damage, and that fire is also under investigation.
