Accused of Stealing Credit Cards, Ham, Lakeville Woman Faces More Charges

Lisa Marie Monson is accused of using her friend's card 16 times—and also stealing a ham and pancake mix from her friend's home.

A Lakeville woman already facing charges of embezzling almost $80,000 from Burnsville companies is now accused of stealing a friend’s credit card—and also a ham and a bag of pancake mix from the woman’s home.

Lisa Marie Monson, also known as Lisa Marie Watkins and Lisa Marie Mullen, 40, faces a felony charge of credit-card fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the latest complaint against her, Monson stole a credit card from a friend late last year while the friend was vacationing in Florida.

The complaint says the victim left several credit cards at home before she went to Florida, including cards for Kwik Trip and Kohl’s. When she returned in late November, she received a printout from Kwik Trip, showing a number of unauthorized transactions totaling almost $600.

The victim told police that she was also missing an Aldi’s spiral-cut ham, a bag of Krusteaz pancake mix and some trail mix valued at $20.

The victim said she found out later that someone tried to use her Kohl’s card while she was out of town, but the transaction was declined because the card had been canceled from lack of use.

Monson had access to the victim’s home during her absence because the sons of the two women are friends, according to the complaint.

Dakota County sheriff’s deputies examined surveillance video from Kwik Trip, which showed a woman with a girl in a white Ford Explorer making one of the unauthorized purchases. A subsequent investigation found that the Explorer was registered to Monson’s mother, with an address in Lakeville.

“It should be noted that this past summer, Dakota County deputies had responded to that address on numerous occasions to arrest [Monson] on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions,” the complaint says.

Deputies executed a search warrant at Monson’s home last Dec. 7, and interviewed Monson, who initially told them that her friend had given her permission to use the Kwik Trip card to buy gasoline and firewood, according to the complaint. She told deputies that she put the card back, and found out after her friend returned home that the card had been stolen.

Eventually, Monson admitted that she used the Kwik Trip card four times, although records show that it was used fraudulently 16 times, according to the complaint.

She also admitted taking the card from her friend’s home, and told deputies that she burned it in her fireplace after using it, the complaint says.

While searching Monson’s home, deputies recovered an Aldi’s spiral-cut ham and a large bag of Krusteaz pancake mix.
