Lakeville Police Updates Council on New Rapid Response Plan

Sgt. Jason Polinski briefed the city council at its regular meeting Monday, addressing new tactics to control emergency situations, such as gunmen in large buildings, according to a Lakeville Sun ThisWeek report.

While gun control may be the issue grabbing the headlines, Lakeville Police are doing what they can to control emergency situations and save lives in large shooting situations.

An area of law enforcement that has evolved greatly since the high-profile Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, CO more than a decade ago, tactical response is a key method in lethal and extremely violent situations.

The biggest change? Lakeville Police won't approach a building with a live shooter under the same directive. In the past, the idea would be to set up a perimeter and enter with a negotations operation. Now, first responders on scene will form an evacuation corridor, the ThisWeek report states.
