Finding it suspicious, the complaint said, the officer walked up to the vehicle and saw a set of Utah license plates in the back seat of the car. The officer ran the plates and discovered the car had been stolen.

Soon after, Lakeville police talked to the hotel employee who confirmed that the stolen vehicle was registered to Muhammad, who was still in his room, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, the officer contacted Utah police and confirmed that the vehicle was reported as stolen from a local business and that the reporting party indicated Muhammad, a former employee of the business, stole the vehicle.

The officer also learned that Muhammad had active warrants in Washington for escape from probation, from Idaho for burglary, and Missouri for theft, the complaint said.

When police were ready, the complaint said the hotel employee called Muhammad to move his vehicle, and upon exiting his hotel room, with the vehicle keys in hand, Lakeville police arrested him.

Police Chief Thomas Vonhof said the car was impounded.
