Lakeville Police: Hit and Run Driver Airlifted After Second Crash

The driver of a pickup truck slammed into a car, then drove off, only to roll his truck a few blocks away.

A Lakeville man was seriously injured in a crash just moments after fleeing the scene of a second hit-and-run crash with another vehicle.

Police say Jason Fields, 40, of Lakeville, was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center around 7:35 a.m. on Monday morning after being ejected from his pickup truck, which flipped a number of times along Cedar Avenue, just south of 202nd Street West.

When arrived at the scene, they learned of the first crash, which involved a rear-ended Toyota Echo. The driver of that car, Andrew Rundell, 34, also of Lakeville, wasn't injured.

Authorities say Fields plowed his GMC truck into the back of Rundell's Toyota at the intersection of Cedar and 202nd. The force of the crash pushed Rundell and his Toyota into the intersection. But rather than stopping, police say Fields fled the scene and drove southbound on Cedar at a high rate of speed.

Moments later, and just a couple blocks away, Fields lost control of his truck, flipping it a number of times, and was ejected from the vehicle.

North Memorial Medical Center was unable to update the condition of Fields this morning.

Lakeville police suspect alcohol is a factor in the incident. The Minnesota State Patrol is helping with the investigation.
