Lakeville Police Goes All in for 'Movember'

The event is called "Movember" and involves officers starting out the month clean shaven and then growing mustaches during the month to raise awareness and donations for men's health.

Officer Jim Dronen came to me a few months ago with a request to have our police department participate in a charity event during the month of November.

The event is called “Movember” and involves officers starting out the month clean shaven and then growing mustaches during the month to raise awareness and donations for men’s health and specifically those types of cancers that men fall victim to. Jim relayed that two of his male relatives were recently diagnosed with cancer and he wanted to do something positive that would encourage greater awareness of this issue.

I thought it was a great idea and gave Jim approval for the department to be involved. At the beginning of November, I joined 25 other officers in our department in participating in “Movember." So far, the Lakeville PD “Movember” team has raised over $1,000 in donations. So, don’t be surprised if you notice that all the officers that you see are sporting large ‘70s style mustaches over the next few weeks.
