Lakeville Police Arrest Man on Fifth DUI-Related Charge

A Burnsville man arrested four months ago on felony drunken-driving chargeshas been charged again with felony DWI, this time in Lakeville.

Elliot Alexander Williams, 22, is charged with first-degree DWI, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in prison and a $4,200 fine.

Williams is also charged with fleeing police, a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Lakeville police were parked at the entrance to the Valley Lake Park parking lot on Nov. 3 when they saw a car driven by Williams speed out of the lot.

Williams didn’t signal a right turn, then blew through a stop sign at 160th Street West and Garrett Avenue, according to the complaint.

When police stopped him, Williams slammed on the brakes, jumped out of the car and fled on foot, the complaint says. Officers found him crouched on top of a garage at a nearby townhouse complex.

Police detected an odor of alcohol and noted that Williams had bloodshot, watery eyes. They administered a preliminary breath test, and Williams registered over the legal blood-alcohol limit of .08 percent, according to the complaint.

Williams told police that he was in “big trouble,” because he was out on bond on another first-degree DUI charge, and because he was driving without using a required ignition interlock, according to the complaint.

Williams’ criminal record includes four previous DUI-related convictions since January 2008, the complaint says.

Williams has been released from custody on bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Feb. 4 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
