UPDATED: Lakeville North Student Killed in Accident on Dodd Boulevard

The crash was reported on Wednesday morning at 9:45 a.m., just a quarter mile from the high school.

A 17-year-old Lakeville North High School student was killed on Wednesday morning in a car accident on Dodd Boulevard, south of 190th Street in Lakeville.

The crash was reported at 9:45 a.m. and occurred one quarter mile from Lakeville North High School. According to a news release from the Lakeville Police Department:

A preliminary investigation led police to believe the victim, driving her Pontiac Grand Prix southbound, lost control on the slush covered roadway, slid sideways and was broadsided by a GMC Acadia traveling in the opposite direction. Occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.

The roadway was covered with slush from periods of snow overnight and in the morning. A light mist was falling at the time of the accident.

The driver and the passenger of the GMC Acadia had minor injuries.

Lakeville Schools had a calendar-scheduled two-hour late start on Wednesday. School staff were immediately notified of the accident and they implemented a crisis plan to assist students dealing with the loss of their classmate, the Lakeville Police Department reported.

Dodd Boulevard was closed for several hours as a result of the accident. Assisting at the scene were the Lakeville Fire Department and Allina Paramedics. Lakeville Police are investigating the accident with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol reconstruction team.

The Lakeville Police Department has withheld the names of all the victims at this time pending notification of family members.
