Lakeville Names Five Semifinalists for Police Chief Position

Former Police Chief Thomas Vonhof retired at the end of September.

The City of Lakeville has announced the semifinalists for the police chief position that has been open since former Lakeville Police Chief Thomas Vonhof retired at the end of September.

The semifinalists are named in alphabetical order:

  • Nathan R. Gove: Commander, Golden Valley Police Department.
  • Jeffrey R. Long: Chief of Police, Edina Police Department
  • Brian P. Peters: Commander, Brooklyn Center Police Department
  • Mitchell P. Weinzetl: Chief of Police, Buffalo
  • David P. Zimmer: Captain, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department

Representatives from the Lakeville Police Department, city administration and the city council will conduct interviews with the semifinalists on Saturday, Nov. 16. They will then choose two or three of the candidates as finalists for further interviews and testing, according to the city.

Lakeville City Administrator Steve Mielke hopes to have a police chief chosen by early December.

Sgt. John Kornmann is currently serving as the interim Lakeville Police Chief, and as such was not a candidate for the position.
