Lakeville Fire Has Tips for Ice on Ponds, Lakes

Lakeville Fire Department responded to 14 calls for service the week of November 28 to December 4.

Fire Prevention Tip

It’s getting cold out and lakes and ponds are beginning to freeze!

The general rule of thumb for ice:

  • 2 inches or less – STAY OFF
  • 4 inches of good ice for a walking individual
  • 6 inches of good ice for a snowmobile or ATV
  • 8-12 inches of good ice for a car or small pickup
  • 12-15 inches of good ice for a medium pickup truck

Check out the recent weather conditions and temperature before walking on the ice.

If someone falls into the water, call 911 for help.
