Lakeville Fire Talks Microwave Ovens Safety

Lakeville Fire Department responded to 17 calls for service the week of January 2 to January 8.

Fire Prevention Tip

Injuries caused by microwave ovens involve more emergency room visits than any other cooking device.

Be safe by following these safety tips:

• Heat food in containers only intended for microwave use.
• Open food slowly. Hot steam escaping from the container can cause painful burns.
• Never use aluminum foil or metal objects in a microwave oven.
• If a fire should start inside the oven, leave the door closed, disconnect the power cord, if safe
to do so. Call 911.
