Lakeville Fire Battled Two Blazes on Fourth

Commercial fire struck Progressive Rail, and a residential fire burned in a separate incident that's being blamed on fireworks.

A Lakeville business and home were damaged in separate fires in the Fourth of July, but officials say there were no injuries as a result of the blazes.

was the scene of one of the fires, where Lakeville's Fire Department responded at 7:03 a.m. to a call from an employee who reported seeing smoke and fire in the maintenance area of the warehouse located at 21278 Highview Ave.

According to the Lakeville Fire Department, the Lakeville Police Department was first on the scene and officers reported the building's sprinkler system was activated and that they saw smoke.

The fire department said the building's sprinkler system managed to hold the fire in check until crews managed to enter the building and put out the fire.

Business should resume as normal this week, according to the fire department.

Residential fire

Earlier in the morning, at around 1 a.m., Lakeville fire crews responded to a garage fire at 16953 Garcia Way. 

Police on scene first reported that a townhome development's detached garage building was ablaze. All told, two garages in a group of four were on fire, according to the Lakeville Fire Department.

Crews put out the fire and stopped it from spreading to the other two units of the garage, according to the fire department. 

The fire is under investigation at this time, but fireworks are suspected to be the cause, according to the Lakeville Fire Department.

Fire crews responded with three stations, including two engines, one ladder truck, one rescue truck, and Allina ambulance.
