In Case You Forgot, It's Still Winter in Lakeville

The entire region saw a massive snowstorm this weekend, with parts of the southern metro receiving more than a foot of snow.

Maybe last week's string of mild weather lulled you into a sudden case of Spring fever.

How quickly things can change.

After a week of blissfully warm weather that had lingering snow drifts dwindle to shadows of their former selves, Lakeville and rest of the Twin Cities got a clear reminder winter is not quite done with us.

More than a foot of snow fell in Lakeville—11.6-inches on Sunday and another inch or so on Monday.

The National Weather Service says this winter is officially the 11th snowiest winter ever, with 72.9-inches having fallen thus far at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. The all-time record is 98.6-inches of snow, and that fell in the 1983-1984 season.

Many of Lakeville's roadways are clear as of 10 a.m. Monday, and while the city's offices are closed for President's Day, public works crews will be busy cleaning up all day today.

Lakeville's schools are also closed, as scheduled, for the holiday.

According to the MVTA, buses will be operating in Lakeville, but there will be no off-route pick-ups. They also said "buses may have to pick-up or drop-off on the street if lots are not plowed."

Regionally, MSP International Airport canceled more than 700 flights as of Sunday evening, but officials say they're recovering today and all runways are clear.

More than 120 car accidents, rollovers and spin-outs were reported in the metro area, according to Minnesota State Patrol reports.
