Embattled Lakeville Day-Care Operator Arrested for Drunken Driving

Brenda Lee Lysholm, charged earlier this month with continuing to operate her home day-care facility after the state suspended her license, was arrested Monday evening for DUI.

A Lakeville woman cited earlier this month for continuing to operate her home day-care facility after her license was suspended by the state was arrested Monday night for drunken driving.

Brenda Lee Lysholm, 45, was arrested just after 6 p.m. in Lakeville and charged with second-degree DUI, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine. 

Lysholm was charged Sept. 13 with providing a residential program without a license. Her license to operate her home day-care facility, Brenda’s Sharing &  Caring Childcare, was indefinitely suspended by the Minnesota Department of Human Services in July after county regulators found a  number of violations during an unannounced visit in April.

The Sept. 13 charge is a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Lysholm initially received a temporary license suspension in April. In July, after county regulators received an additional report in June about her facility, state regulators indefinitely suspended her license.

However, authorities said, Lysholm continued to offer day-care services, and last week told a caller that she expected to have a number of new openings for children this week.

Lysholm, who has an earlier drunken-driving conviction on her record, is scheduled to make a first appearance on the new DUI charge Sept. 26 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
