Discarded Cigarette Likely Cause of Lakeville Blaze

Firefighters responded a house fire Monday likely caused by a discarded cigarette. Lakeville Police were able to remove the occupant without injury.

All four of Lakeville’s fire stations responded to a house fire at 17526 Haverhill Circle on Monday afternoon at 1:50 p.m. According to a Lakeville Fire Department press release, the fire began on the front porch of the home apparently due to a discarded cigarette.

One occupant was in the home at the time of the fire but Lakeville Police were able to locate and remove of the individual through the rear of the house without injury.

Fire crews were able to knock the fire down quickly which greatly reduced the damage to the interior of the home. Lakeville Fire Marshal Brian Carstensen stated the two front windows on the house were broken from the extreme heat and the fire was progressing into the house as firefighters arrived. Carstensen said fire crews did an excellent job stopping the fire from moving beyond the front room of the house. They were also concerned with the location of the gas meter which was located in the front of the home and melted as a result of the fire.
