Letter to the Editor: Mark Bellows is the Right Choice for Lakeville

Letter writer: Mark Bellows must remain our mayor.

To the editor,

Lakeville does not need a self-proclaimed career politician who considers the city as nothing but a stepping stone who will move on if a different opportunity presents itself.

Mr. Bellows is a fiscal conservative with deep roots in Lakeville and 12 years of experience as a City Council member and Mayor.

Under Mayor Bellow’s leadership, the city policies have become more transparent. He was instrumental in forming the Financial Advisory Committee.  This committee ensures that our citizens and businesses stay informed and have a voice when it comes to the budget process and our taxes, a process that was opposed by another candidate for Mayor.

Mayor Bellows also implemented several programs such as: The Developers Forum, Realtors Forum, and the new marketing program for the city. These programs will ensure that businesses are in a position to thrive, and that new companies and jobs will come to the city and Lakeville. We need Lakeville to remain a place of choice to live in.

Mr. Bellows has my vote and I hope, no... I am sure, that many citizens of this fine city feel the same way.

Mr. Bellow is not a fiscal conservative. – He has shown he is not interested in what is good for all of Lakeville. Instead he demonstrated that he is on a mission to impose his Teaparty philosophy on all of us. He created the Financial Advisory Committee because he dose not want to acknowledge and endorse the good work of the past which resulting in a wonderful and balanced town at a very low tax rate. He is trying to cultivate dissent so his mission gets traction.

I couldn't agree more with you 'resident'. All of his candidate interview comments including statements like not blaming Bush, the problems in St Paul and in Washington tells us 'his' partisan viewpoints are his only real interests. Mark is a dictator and not by any means a leader and its time for him to move on. Bellows is an angry man. Have anyone ever seen him smile during a council meeting? Yeah, us neither!

resident, err I mean Joe, I can call you Joe right (it's pretty obvious who you are)? The FAC was a MUST DO for our city, the vote was 4-1 with Matt Little voting no and while it is simple to say what you have, the truth of the matter is the committee is more about having consistency and transparency for the tax payers. So when Mr. Feller, retires, the city won't be left scratching its head. As far as Mayor Bellows not showing he cares about what is good for all citizens, Mark has been serving our city since Matt Little was in diapers. Ask the hundreds if not thousands of families he has helped through the Lakeville Police department Chaplin services what they think. Ask the hundreds of residents he stood up for during council meetings if he was angry or representing that citizen when no one else on the council would. Ask our patrol officers who they think has the cities best interest in mind when it comes to public safety. Ask Don Gudmundson former Lakeville police chief who he supports. How about former Mayor Robert Johsnon or State Rep. Dave Thompson, the business community, the school board, Mary Liz. The list can go on and on and on and on. You and the other anonymous trolls can keep making rash characterizations of Mayor Bellows that do not line up with his character or believes at all.

I have seen him smile plenty, I have seen Mark sit and talk to residents for hours about problems they are having because no one else will listen. I have also watched Mark stand up for citizens of the city in council meetings when no one else on the council would, both as mayor and as a council member. I also have seen Mark give credit where credit is due. I don't see a 17 page document taking credit for anything and everything under the sun. That isn't leadership, the council acts a whole, Mayor included. This isn't Washington, they all report to the same voters, the councils victories and failures are as a whole. What I haven't seen Mark do is call Channel 5 news when something doesn't go his way, I don't see Mark making a spectacle out of the city and the council for his own political gain . I don't see Mark courting a specific group of people for the soul purpose of their votes. I don't see Mark taking contributions from special interest that have nothing to do with out community. I don't see Mark dodging and hiding from questions about his political affiliations.

Little's 17 page plan is a plan developed by the majority of the city staff and council. His ideas are not new, they are just a reinvention of the wheel.

Billy, Thanks for making my point, that it's apparent Matt Little is willing to move forward with what his fellow staff and council members develop. Little's spirit of cooperation is so refreshing the fact that Bellows usually only moves on ideas he originates... ideas like calling a fellow staffer a liar to the turn of getting the city sued. I enjoyed having to pay for that out of my tax dollars #$#$#. Bellows should have paid the city back for that one, instead of giving himself a raise. As we said, it's time for a change and us seniors are not willing to tolerate the antics of Bellows any longer.

My point is that Little's ideas are already what bellows and Reib have been implementing the past ten years. Little's ideas are not new and he should be ashamed to consider them his ideas. Little = lots of promises, but nothing to show or it unless you are a senior in this city

Well Billy, that's no way to put down seniors. And Matt Little has a lot to show in his role as council. Just the way he treats others on the council the same way he wants to be treated is a wonderful change from what arrogant Bellows does. Little has never got the city sued over his untruthful remarks like Bellows did when he got caught with his pants down... and then refused to pull them up. Bye bye Bellows!!!

$1200 dollars is peanuts for our city. $3000000 which bellows saved us because he voted for the liquor study is fabulous. Oh wait LITTLE VOTED AGAINST THE LIQUOR STUDY. Little votes against everything that the city recommends . Only two more years of Little Yippie!
Billy October 30, 2012 at 02:54 AM
$1200 divided by 56,000 residents = 2 cents. That's basic math for the little camp to continue to harp on. This is one of Little Camp's problems...they focuses on the simple issues because they don't comprehend the difficult ones.

Only two more months of Bellows.... Yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
