Founder of Agua Viva Dies at Age 47

Jay Substad, of Lakeville, led mission trips over a period of 10 years.

Jay C. Substad, of Lakeville, died on Jan. 17 at the age of 47. 

Substad was the founder of Agua Viva, a nonprofit organization that organizes short-term mission trips to rural villages in Honduras to help the community build clean, sustainable water systems. Substad is described in his obituary as dedicated to bringing "Christ and clean water" to those areas in Honduras, and he led several mission trips over a 10-year period.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Faith Covenant Church, located at 12921 Nicollet Avenue South in Burnsville. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Faith Covenant Church.

Memorials are suggested to Agua Viva.
