Vikings V Texans (Pre-Season) Game #1 Preview

A preview of the Vikings v Texans. Providing you with news, analysis a look at the rest of the league's schedule and of course predictions.

Pre Game Ceremonies

The Vikings take on the Texans this Friday (8/9) at Mall of America Field with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 P.M. You can watch the game on Kare 11 and listen at 100.3 (KFAN).
Pre Game Interview
On 8/5 Adrian Peterson told Paul Allen of KFAN (100.3 fm) that he does not expect to play in at least the first and second pre season games.
What to Watch For
-The Passing Attack
Last year the passing attack for the Vikings was downright awful. We don't expect to see very much of Adrian Peterson if we see him at all, so this gives Christian Ponder ample opportunity this pre-season to move the ball through the air.

-The Rookies
With 3 first round draft picks there is a lot of excitement around this year's rookies. I expect Cordarrelle Patterson to have the biggest impact only because he has the most chances to touch the ball this pre season.

-Wider Receiver Depth
The Vikings believe they have developed some depth at the Wide Receiver position after having a dismal passing attack last year. Watch Jerome Simpson closely after a poor year last year. The team says he is much improved but I am still very much a skeptic. Look to see if Joe Webb can secure that 5th WR job. The team says the re tooled QB is very athletic and as a big Webb supporter I hope he wins that 5th WR spot.
The Other Team

The Texans come in with a very established QB, a strong Wide Receiving core, and a top notch running back. Their Defense was also among the best in the league last year. For them this pre season will be about testing their depth at all positions.

Hail Mary Prediction
McLeod Bethel-Thompson will throw two touchdowns. Joe Webb will accumulate over 100 receiving yards and score a receiving touchdown.

Final Scoreline

For the first pre season game of the year I predict the Vikings will win 27-24.

Post Game Wrap Up

-Adrian Peterson Will Not Play
-Look for the depth (or lack of depth) the Vikings have stockpiled at WR, CB and LB.
-Watch to see if the Vikings have/can develop a decent passing attack all the way from starters to 3rd stringers.
-Starters will likely only play 1 or 2 series.
-I predict the Vikings will win 27-24.
