Vikings Final Preseason Update and Season Preview

A blog about the MN Vikings.

Preseason week 3 Chargers 12 Vikings 10

It's safe to say the vikings offensive looked terribly. Blair Walsh missed a field goal early in the game, and our offense looked disjointed. Our touchdown came on a Sage Rosenfels (cut from roster) pass to Matt Asiata. Matt Asiata would have been the stand out player for the offense if he didn't fumble the ball (fumble was lost).

Jasper Brinkley- Jasper was impressive on defense in this game. He had two sacks and quite a few times he made the QB feel uncomfortable. We didn't call his name too much on defensive pass coverage so he must have been doing his job.

Preseason Week 4 Texans 28 Vikings 24

This game doesn't mean much as many if not all of the starters did not play. However a certain receiver did stand out and the running back position battle was settled. Also M.C.B. looked impressive and even won himself the third quarterback spot (which is a HUGE surprise) over veteran Sage Rosenfels. There isn't a whole lot to say about the game itself but a lot to say about the position battles and outcomes.

Running Back

This position was won by Matt Asiata, well not exactly. While I did predict he would win a spot on this roster it will be in deep reserve behind A.P. and Toby Gerhart. Jordan Toadman who made a frantic dash in the fourth game to win a spot (he rushed for over 100 yards v. Houston) was signed to the practice squad.

Quarter Back

There was little controversy over who would be the 3 quarterbacks for the Vikes.

  1. Christian Ponder
  2. Joe Webb
  3. Sage Rosenfels

Instead Mcleod Bethal Thompson won the third starting job. He is a gunslinger out of Sacramento State. We saw spurts of great plays from him but nothing consistent, granted he didn't play all that much. Whatever the Vikings see in him that must have seen it in practice.

Stand Out Player

Jarious Wright had over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown. He was playing against backups but played well none the less. Hopefully he can be a successful backup to spell Percy Harvin.

Season Preview

My final prediction for how many wins the Vikings will get this year 5. I predict the Vikings to go 5 and 12. We have a very tough Division schedule along with having to play San Fransicio and the Texans. Suprisngly though I pick the Vikings to beat either the Bears or the Packers. We play both of them multiple times late in the season and with the playoffs out of the question those games will be our "post-season." I think we lose to the Colts, Texans, 49'ers, Seahawks and Redskins. Those go along with all of our division losses.

Prediction for Jaguars v Vikings (week 1)

Note I didn't have the Jags on the list. Just because this season will not be the best doesn't mean it won't be exciting. I think the energy at Mall of America Field will be high and everyone will be ready to go. I excpet the Vikings to come out with more energy and win by 4 on the second to last drive of the game.

Vikings 21 Jaguars 17
