Scare Factor: Halloween Haunted Houses, Mazes Near Lakeville

Looking for a scary experience this Halloween? Some of these attractions are within driving distance of Lakeville, but could be worth the scare factor.

For some people, celebrating Halloween includes visiting a haunted house or going on a haunted hayride. Halloween is just around the corner and to get you prepared for the spooky holiday, Patch has prepared a list of some haunted attractions you can visit—if you dare.

Frightmares at Buck Hill, Burnsville
Live music and several attractions, including “The Inferno,” “Fright Factory” and “The Bellharm Lovejoy Asylum.” Price is $18 on Sundays and $20 on Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Nightmare Hollow Scream Park
Claims to be the scariest haunted house near Minneapolis and St. Paul. In addition to the haunted house, they also have horror hayrides and a Klown Karnival.

Ramsey County Sheriff’s Fright Farm Haunted House

This haunted house is located on the Ramsey County Fairgrounds where the Poor Farm operated from 1885 to the 1940s. Citizens who couldn’t care for themselves were sent to live at the Poor Farm. They worked in exchange for free room and board. Many employees of the Haunted House have claimed to see a dark shadowy figure that they’ve affectionately named “The Cowboy.”

Valleyscare Halloween Haunt

You must be over the age of 13 to go to the Valleyscare Hallowen Haunt. Located at Valleyfair, the park has been taken over by monsters, zombies and scary clowns.

Scream Town

Boasts the largest haunted corn maze in Minnesota. With five attractions spread out over 400,000 square feet in Chaska, you’re sure to experience fright at its finest. Visit Oak Blood Forest, Terror in the Corn, Rabid Alley, The Red Neck Resort, and Circus Asylum. Scream Town also features over 100 actors.

MAZES

Harvest Corn Maze

The Otsego based corn maze is located at 101 Market and opens for the 2012 season Sept. 15 through Oct. 31. In addition to the corn maze, activities include animal train rides, bouncing pony, corn cannon, corn pit and more.

Apple Jack Orchard

This family owned orchard, which opened in 1983, includes a corn maze, wagon rides, corn maze, petting zoo and more. This year’s theme is tractors. The maze opened for the 2012 season Sept. 1 and goes through October.

Sever’s Corn Maze

Sever's Corn Maze and Fall Festival started up for the 2012 season for Sept. 14 and goes through Oct. 28. This year’s maze theme is “Harvesting Memories.” Patrons cannot only check out the maze, but a variety of activities Tire Mountain, Pumpkin Blasters and Goat World. Check out Sever’s website for what is included in the admission price and activities with an additional cost.

Twin Cities Harvest Festival and Maze

The Twin Cities Harvest Festival and Maze opens in nearby Brooklyn Park Sept. 22 for the 2012 season until Oct. 28. Located on 19.5-acres of land, this year’s maze honors Minnesota military families - with a portion of every ticket sold to the Minnesota Military Family Foundation. Ticket price includes the maze, petting zoo, corn pit and more. Additional activities available for an extra cost.
