‘Purple Bowling’ Fundraiser in Honor of Anarae Schunk Short $800

Burnsville High School student Wawracz-Harms organized the fundraiser to raise awareness of domestic violence and as part of a project in her social studies class.

Burnsville High School student's "Purple Bowling" Fundraiser for domestic violence awareness in memory of her friend and math tutor, Anarae Schunk, has already raised $2,000 according to the fundraising page on GoFundMe. The amount is just $800 short of the fundraising goal of $2,800.

Miya Wawracz-Harms, a junior, organized the fundraiser as part of a project in her social studies class. Proceeds from the fundraiser, minus expenses, will benefit Cornerstone, an organization working toward the prevention of domestic violence. Schunk was found dead at the end of September after she was last seen on video surveillance with an ex-boyfriend later charged with murder in another incident.

The fundraiser consisted of a bowling event at Cedarvale Lanes in Eagan on Dec. 22. Donors could receive a ticket for bowling for every $10 donated. Bowlers were encouraged to wear purple in support of domestic violence awareness.

Around 80 people attended the event, said Miya's mother, Jodi Wawracz. Bowlers were of all ages, from young children to older adults. Donations received on the day of the event included a donation of 20 percent of pizza sales from the event. Funds raised on Dec. 22 are not yet included in the total amount raised.

Wawracz-Harms will continue to accept donations for the fundraiser on GoFundMe through Dec. 31.
