INTERSTATE 35/35E/35W

(The following is written by Mike Schoemer)

Head-to-head traffic on Interstate 35E is underway in Burnsville and Eagan, as the project "gets" real and gets congested.

As concrete pavement repair begins on southbound Interstate 35E in Burnsville and Eagan next week, southbound traffic will be shifted to a single lane of traffic on the northbound side of the interstate between Cedar Avenue and Cliff Road.

Following the traffic shift, both directions of the interstate will be in a single lane of traffic in each direction head-to-head.  At the same time, the ramps between Cedar Avenue and the southbound interstate will close. Single lane restrictions also will be extended northward to Diffley Road.

Weather permitting, concrete pavement repair in this stretch of roadway will be completed by late Monday, July 1 and southbound traffic will be shifted back to a single lane on the southbound side of the interstate and the ramps at Cedar Avenue will reopen.

According to MnDOT Interstate 35E traffic has been reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction since 12 midnight on Saturday, June 15 between the I-35E and the I-35/35W/35E split and Cedar Avenue. They will remain a single lane in each direction through mid-July.

All work is weather permitting and could change for inclement weather.

INTERSTATE 35 RESURFACING

Last week, MnDOT crews erected signs through the length of the project area, from the I-35W/35E split to County Road 2 in Elko. The signs say work will begin July 22.

MnDOT’s project website says I-35 will be single-lane traffic through the work zone until November.
