UPDATE: Motorcycle Crash Victim Died from Blunt-Force Head Injury

James Alan Batten II of Claremont was thrown from his motorcycle and hit a vehicle and the pavement. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the Saturday evening crash in Lakeville.

UPDATE, TUESDAY: The 26-year-old Claremont man killed in Saturday's motorcycle crash on Cedar Avenue in Lakeville died from a blunt-force head injury, authorities said.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office says James Alan Batten II was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 6:28 p.m. Saturday.

The above named individual died as a result of blunt force closed cranial injury sustained in a motor vehicle crash. Manner of death is an Accident. Lakeville Police and Hennepin County Medical Examiner continue to investigate.

James Alan Batten II, age 26, of Claremont and formerly of Ham Lake, died on Saturday, June 22, 2013 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Lakeville.

Funeral services will held at the Christian Family Church, Owatonna, on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. with the Reverend Luverne Zacharias officiating.

Visitation will be held at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church on Sunday for one half hour prior to the service.

James Alan was born on January 6, 1987 in Coon Rapids, MN to James Alan and Peggy (Lee) Batten. James was employed as a Wireless Communications Installation and Support Technician at Advanced Wireless Communications.

He is survived by his father, James Alan Batten (Deb Wolden) of Claremont; his mother, Peggy Lee of Maple Lake; sister, Dhanrajia (DJ) Brooks and her daughters, Cyrenna-Jayde and Sapheria-Joy of St. Cloud and Jordan-Cai and grandson Zander-Guy of Harris; sister, Bessie Batten (Phil Atkins) and their children, William, Amanda, Brooklee and Trinity of St. Cloud; sister, April Batten of Claremont; paternal grandmother, Adeline Batten of Luxemburg, WI; Aunts and Uncles, Gail (George) Petroff, Kenneth (Terri) Batten, Kathy (Jerry) Haegele, Robert (Lori) Lee, David Lee and Barbara Lee; and many beloved cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Alfred James Batten and maternal grandparents, Caleb and Margaret Nelson.

UPDATE, SUNDAY: Police say a 26-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Cedar Avenue just north of 202nd Street on Saturday evening.

KSTP.com says Lakeville police identified the victim as James Alan Batten II of Claremont.

Preliminary reports say Batten was driving his motorcycle north of Cedar Avenue at about 6:20 p.m. when it struck the rear of a vehicle turning north on to Cedar from 202nd Street. Batten was thrown from the motorcycle and hit the vehicle and pavement.

Batten was pronounced dead at the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY, SATURDAY: Lakeville police roadblocked northbound traffic on Cedar Avenue at 210th Street on Saturday evening for what appeared to be a fatal crash involving a motorcycle.

The crash happened at roughly 6:20 p.m. just north of the intersection of Cedar Avenue and 202th Street.

When this reporter arrived at the scene of the crash, emergency personnel from ALF Ambulance and the Lakeville Fire and Police departments were seen performing chest compressions on a victim. They ended compressions after several minutes and placed a white sheet over the victim.

Onlookers could see a motorcycle laying on the pavement. Several cars were parked on the shoulder of the highway several feet from the motorcycle, but it was not certain whether those vehicles were involved in the crash.

Lakeville police cruisers and a Lakeville Fire Department rescue truck blocked the cutout to northbound Cedar Avenue at 202th Street to oncoming traffic. Southbound traffic on Cedar moved freely through the incident scene.
