‘Oppressive Heat’ Expected This Week

The National Weather Service says Lakeville may see heat indices closing in on 100 this week.

Here is a question you’ll probably be asked during the next couple days:

“Hot enough for ya?”

Lakeville is expected to experience some of its warmest weather of the year this week, with temperatures reaching into the high 80s and low 90s and heat indices closing in on 100.

Considering that it’s mid-July in Minnesota, hot weather is nothing out of the ordinary.

That said, the National Weather Service is calling this week’s weather “oppressive heat.”

No heat-related weather alerts or warnings had been issued of as of Monday night.

The average high in the Twin Cities at this time of year is about 80 degrees, according to weather service climate data.

Here is the weather forecast for the next few days:

• Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

• Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy in the evening...then becoming mostly clear. Lows in the lower 70s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

• Wednesday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 90s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the lower 70s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

• Thursday: Partly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning. Highs in the upper 80s.

• Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows in the lower 70s. Chance of rain 60 percent.

• Friday: Partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s.

• Friday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 60s.
