Leftover Halloween Candy Transforms Holiday Treats

Lakeville Patch has some holiday-season ideas you can use to get rid of all that leftover Halloween candy.

Halloween has come and gone, but now you’re left with a cauldron of candy. Yes, you can nibble your way to New Year’s, but maybe you are looking for more creative ways to use it up. With the holidays right around the corner, how about turning that candy into holiday treats? Lakeville Patch has browsed the web for some of the most tempting suggestions to transform that candy into something almost unrecognizable.

  • Taste of Home features My Kids’ Favorite Cookies, Toffee Poke Cake, and Berry Surprise Cupcakes. No one would guess last week’s candy is tucked into these delectable desserts.
  • Sue Kirchner of Park Ridge Patch suggests visiting thekitchn.com for a round-up of cool recipes using leftover Halloween candy. Some recipes are family-friendly like Peppermint Patty Brownies, but she said some sound like fun for Mom and Dad, like Skittles Flavored Vodka. Head to Park Ridge Patch for other creative ways to use Halloween candy.
  • Chocolate bark is a great vehicle for leftover candy. Melt down the chocolate, throw in some candy bits, and enjoy. White chocolate pairs perfectly with peppermints. Here’s a recipe from McCormick that comes together in mere minutes. In most cases, chocolate bark can be frozen for later use or stashed in the refrigerator until the holidays arrive.
  • How about adding peanut butter cups to a batch of banana bread? Peanut butter, chocolate and bananas equals a winning combination at the Cookies and Cups blog.
  • Have too many Tootsie Rolls rolling around at the bottom of the candy bucket? This recipe for Tootsie Roll Fudge from Pip and Ebby might be just what you are looking for.
  • Beautiful, delicate stained glass cookies transform hard fruit-flavored candies into works of art. Or how about Skittles Meringue? Real Simple has the recipes.
  • Shortbread bars topped with melted chocolate candy frosting is another sweet treat. And at Pillsbury.com, the possibilities are endless, from Rainbow CookiePops Mash-up to Candy Bar Doughnuts.
  • Parenting.com suggests using leftover candy corn as a topping for yams on the Thanksgiving table or making homemade candy-flavored vodka.
  • And at Betty Crocker.com, Crazy Halloween Candy Apple Crisp, Flourless Chocolate Candy Cakes and Candy S’More Brownies are on the menu.
  • If you still have too much candy and just need it out of the house, Operation Shoebox collects Halloween candy to send overseas to troops.
