Lakeville North Goes After State Girls Lacrosse Title on Saturday

The fourth-seeded Panthers (14-4) will play three-time defending state champion The Blake School at 5 p.m. at Chanhassen High School.

Fourth-seeded Lakeville North will take on second-seeded The Blake School in Saturday’s state girls lacrosse championship game.

The matchup is set for 5 p.m. at Chanhassen High School.

This will be Lakeville North’s first appearance in the girls lacrosse title game. Blake is the three-time defending champion and winner of four state titles overall.

The Panthers (14-4) reached the championship matchup in thrilling fashion, defeating the state tournament’s top-seeded team, Eden Prairie, in double overtime in Thursday’s semifinal.

The game remained close throughout, with the largest lead being a 7-4 lead for Lakeville North early in the second half.

Eden Prairie took the early 1-0 lead on the first of four goals by Jessica Lagerquist as Emma Claire Fontenot delivered her first of two assists.

The Eagles wouldn't lead again until grabbing a 12-11 lead in the first three minute overtime period with 44 seconds to play on a goal by Angie Heppelman.

The Panthers tied the game 19 seconds later (0:25) as Emmie Madsen netted her fourth goal of the night.

In the second overtime, Makayla Kubisiak scored her second goal of the night with 33 seconds left and the Panther defense held strong despite a fierce rally by EP in the closing seconds. The Eagles had a shot on goal, a shot off the right post and a shot that missed just wide of the net.

Blake defeated Stillwater, 13-8, in the other semifinal match.
