I-35 Construction Through Lakeville to Begin July 29
Traffic is scheduled to be reduced to a single lane each way on Aug. 26.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has updated its schedule for construction on Interstate 35 between Elko/New Market and the I-35E/35W split in Burnsville.
According to an email from MnDOT sent Tuesday, work will begin on Monday, July 29. And, traffic will be reduced to a single lane each way beginning late next month.
Here is the text of the email:
Upcoming traffic impacts for the I-35E and I-35 improvement projects
I-35E:
Beginning at midnight [July 23], crews will shift both north and southbound traffic on I-35E between Cedar Ave and Diffley Road, to the southbound side of the roadway. The roadway will remain single lane with traffic traveling head to head up to the I-35/35W/35E split until the end of July.

At the same time, northbound I-35E ramps to and from Cedar Ave will close. Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour bypassing the closure.
The McAndrews Road Bridge has been closed since July 10 and will remain closed a few more days as crews continue to patch the roadway and install railing and fence.

There will still be two weekend closures of I-35W between Hwy 13 and the I-35/35W/35E split, one for each direction of the roadway. We will provide more information once we get closer to the closure dates.
I-35:
Work on the I-35 portion between Elko/New Market and the Burnsville split is scheduled to begin on July 29.
The long-term head to head traffic switch is tentatively scheduled to begin on or aroundAug. 26. Motorists will be reduced to a single lane north of Hwy 50 on weekends prior to the Aug. 26 date. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the start of the project.
All dates are subject to change due to project readiness and weather.
Just a reminder, speeds are reduced to 55 miles per hour in the constructions zone. Please drive carefully.
