Former Lakeville City Council Member Reappointed to Met Council

Wendy Wulff served on the City Council between 2003 and 2009. She begins her third two-year term on the Met Council.

Former Lakeville City Council Member Wendy Wulff has been appointed to her third two-year term on the Metropolitan Council.

Wulff, who served on the City Council from 2003 to 2009, originally was appointed to the regional governing board by then-Gov. Tim Pawlenty in 2009. Gov. Mark Dayton reappointed Wulff in 2011 and again last week.

Wulff's new term begins Wednesday. It is set to expire Jan. 5, 2015. She represents District 16—made up of the southern portion of Dakota County—on the seven-county board.

The Met Council, says its website, "provides efficient, award-winning services in three primary areas: transit, wastewater collection and treatment, and affordable housing. The council is also charged under state law with establishing regional growth policies, and long-range plans for transportation, aviation, water resources and regional parks."

Here is Wulff's biography from the Met Council website:

Wulff, a resident of Lakeville, has an extensive background in local government and regional issues. She served on the Lakeville City Council from 2003 to 2009, following a seven-year stint on the Lakeville Planning Commission, including one as its chair.

She also served on the Metropolitan Council’s Land Use Advisory Committee, the region’s Transportation Advisory Board, the League of Minnesota Cities Board, the Legislative Commission on Metropolitan Government, and the Minnesota Women in City Government Board.

“Regional services will continue to be challenged by the same issues that are impacting the overall economy,” Wulff said. “We will need to continue to find ways to balance needs with funding, while working collaboratively to maximize the opportunity for economic recovery.”

As a Council member, Wulff serves as vice chair of the Environment Committee and as a member of the Community Development Committee.

Among her reasons for seeking reappointment, Wulff cites her interest in continuing to build on the work of the previous Council in collaborating with cities and counties on the Council’s core functions. “I am also looking forward to completing the work that we began on transitway guidelines and continuing to advance energy efficiency in our wastewater services.”

Wulff holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology. She is married and has three sons.

Also reappointed to the Met Council was Steven Chávez, who represents Burnsville, Inver Grove Heights, South St. Paul and most of Eagan.
