Christmas Season Kickoff: Lakeville's Holiday on Main Set for Dec. 1

The annual event will bring the Christmas spirit to Lakeville this Saturday.

It’s time for Lakeville residents to harness up the horse-drawn sleigh and don their tackiest Christmas sweaters, because the holiday season officially begins this Saturday, Dec. 1, with the 16th annual Holiday on Main celebration.

The festivities, which are hosted by the Downtown Lakeville Business Association, will be held at the Lakeville Mall, near the Post Office, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It’s a nice holiday event where families can come down and enjoy the holiday spirit,” Judy Tschumper, executive director of the Downtown Lakeville Business Association, told Patch about last year's event.

Activities this year will include a meet and greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus, the opportunity to pet live reindeer, trolley rides down Main Street and face painting. Choral singers from both Lakeville North High School and Lakeville South High School will be performing at the mall, along with instrumental groups from Lakeville South High School. Free cookies and orangeade will be provided.

The success of Holiday on Main is due largely to the work of volunteers. The event is staffed by approximately 25 community members, Tschumper said.
