Road Work: More Cedar Closures Slated for This Week

Week of Aug. 6

• Aug. 6: The Minnesota Department of Transportation is slated to start $7.5 million of work on Cedar Avenue from 138th Street in Apple Valley up to the Minnesota River in Bloomington, to smooth the road, and improve drainage and . The work is slated to continue through Oct. 11, according to MnDOT. Read more here. In the long term, the state is looking at ways to relieve future congestion along this stretch of road.

• Milling and paving is now scheduled to take place this week on Cedar between 150th and 140th streets, in both directions (it was tentatively scheduled for last week). Major delays are expected, according to Dakota County.

• Aug. 10: Cedar is scheduled to close between 138th and McAndrews Road from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, until 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.

Future Work

• Aug. 13: Road work on 140th Street is scheduled to begin, which will require some lane closures.

• Aug. 17: 140th tentatively is scheduled to close between Cedar and Galaxie avenues from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.

Construction on Cedar . The county project to accommodate a bus rapid transit system, a station-to-station line that would have buses running from Lakeville to a park-and-ride near the Mall of America and back every 15 minutes during the week.

The goal of bus rapid transit, which also is recommended or planned for other corridors besides Cedar, is to better and more quickly connect the southern suburbs with Minneapolis and St. Paul.

It was announced this spring that the original November 2012 launch date would be pushed back to at least 2013 due to discrepancies over bus station designs.

Dakota County has since OK'd the city of Apple Valley's plan over Cedar Avenue if officials feel the funds are in place.
