Highview Hills Coffee Concerts at the Lakeville Area Arts Center presents CRASH Percussion Ensemble's "Music in Motion," featuring the visual percussion works of Mary Ellen Childs at the Lakeville Area Arts Center, Sunday, April 28, 2013, 2:00 pm.

Composer Mary Ellen Childs' percussion ensemble, CRASH performs her unique, critically acclaimed music around the world.  Childs creates a partnership between composer and performers "that integrates music and dance and theater in fresh and unexpected ways, in pieces that find their dramatic expression through movement, visual image and rhythm.  The union of sight and sound creates an impact that audiences have responded to with tremendous enthusiasm."

"Up Close and Personal" is the theme of this sixth season of coffee concerts at the Lakeville Area Arts Center (LAAC).  This is the first concert spotlighting the works of one composer.  In response to audience demand, it is the second performance by a percussion ensemble.  "Mary Ellen is a bright light among American composers, and we're thrilled she's bringing her CRASH ensemble to the LAAC," says series co-founder, Rolf Erdahl.  "We've been fans of her evocative, engaging music from first hearing, and few things equal the visceral musical and theatrical fun of seeing a great percussion ensemble in action," according to Carrie Vecchione, who runs the series with Erdahl, her spouse and chamber music partner.  These coffee concerts are presented in intimate, informal cabaret style, with conversational presentations of the music by composer and performers accompanied by complimentary Caribou Coffee, scones from Valley Natural Foods, and other reception treats.

Tickets are available at LAAC at 952-985-4640, $14.50 general admission, $12 Seniors/Students. The Lakeville Area Arts Center is located at 20965 Holyoke Ave., Lakeville, MN.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
