Tiger Blood and Winning Required; Lakeville Woman a Finalist to be Charlie Sheen’s Intern

Shannah Henderson, a 2008 Lakeville South graduate, is among 50 finalists to become Charlie Sheen's social media intern.

Some people honestly think Charlie Sheen is going crazy. But whether he's talking about his goddesses to bragging about his “tiger blood,” Sheen has captured the attention of the country.

And while some think he’s off his rocker, others, like 2008 graduate Shannah Henderson, think he's merely winning. Duh.

And surprisingly, it seems as though Sheen’s winning rubs off, because right now, Henderson is doing some winning of her own.

The self-described “Sheeniac” has managed to best more than 82,000 other applicants who are vying to become Sheen’s "#Tigerblood" social media intern this summer. Now, Henderson only needs to beat 49 others who want to be a part of Sheen's day-to-day social media operation.

“I absolutely love Charlie Sheen. I actually think he’s inspiring,” Henderson said. “He’s just himself and he doesn’t change for anyone. That’s very admirable.”

And while she may be a fan of Sheen, for Henderson, who is a public relations student at the University of Minnesota, this opportunity is also very serious.

“This wasn’t ever really a joke for me. I really want to do this,” she said. “The world’s kind of upside down right now, but Sheen seems to be on top of it. It would be a really exciting opportunity for me.”

She originally stumbled across the internship on the web a few weeks ago while vacationing in Wyoming during spring break. Already having interned for Verizon, Henderson said she wanted another internship.

“When I first saw it I thought, ‘Is this real? Are they serious?’ But here I am,” she said. “It’s been a really fun experience.”

But applying for Sheen’s internship isn’t like the others Henderson has had. This application required she jump on Twitter and craft a 75-character tweet about why she should be hired.

Henderson’s tweet was good enough to get to the next round where Henderson needed to submit an actual application. Her resume, including links to her Facebook page and other social media pages, pushed her to the next round. Now, she’s hoping her Youtube video answering, “What is the best company doing social media today?” gets her to the final round.

“It’s just an amazing opportunity,” said Henderson, who is adept enough at social media that she’s taught Facebook seminars for folks trying to learn about the site.

“The world has changed and it’s all digital now. Just the fact that Sheen has figured that out, I feel like he’s so smart for doing that,” Henderson said. “Social media is everything now. It’s a way to connect with people and if you’re not on social media sites, you’re not really with it. Companies take it seriously and it’s essential now days.”

And that, Henderson said, is one of the reasons she’s taking the internship so seriously.

Henderson said her boyfriend isn’t too excited about her becoming one of Sheen’s ‘goddesses,’ but most of her family and friends are excited about the opportunity.

“My dad’s happy—he really likes him,” she said laughing. “My grandmother is really happy for me, but she can’t stand (Sheen).”

But Henderson doesn’t seem too bothered by what people seem to think about Sheen, or her pursuit of an internship with him.

“I would love to spend time with him. (He) seems to be fun,” she said. “I feel like I’ve really had tiger blood the past few weeks. I always think I’m winning now.”
