Six More Inches of Snow Expected in Winter Without End

Yet another winter storm watch has been declared for Thursday and Friday.

Old Man Winter's got spring in his step.

Another winter storm is on the way, dashing hopes of spring with up to six inches of snow and high winds.

According to the National Weather Service, the upcoming system promises not one—but two—bouts of snow, rain, and sleet. The first round is expected to come in on Wednesday, bringing with it rain and two to four inches of snow. It will be followed by a second, "more potent" storm, which is expected to sweep in on Thursday and persist through Friday. The second storm could bring "moderate to heavy snow," likely about six inches "across of broad swath of Minnesota."

According to the state climatology office, this month has been exceptionally wet. April 2013 has been graced by a stretch of ten consecutive days of measurable precipitation (April 5th to April 14), a feat only equaled or bested by two other occasions in Minnesota weather history since 1871: May 30 to June 9, 1883, and June 18 to June 27, 1951.

However, heavy snow is not unusual in April, even at this late date, though historically most snows have occurred during the first half of the month.
