Fewer than 200 Dakota Electric customers are still without power as of noon on Feb. 29 after crews worked through the dawn and morning hours to repair lines damaged by ice build up from yesterday's winter storm.

More than 4,200 were without power in pockets across Laekville, Burnsville and Apple Valley, according to Dakota Electric public relations representative Joe Miller.

The remaining repairs will be worked on until completed, Miller said, but some can take time as tree limbs that have fallen on the lines need to be cleared before they can be reconnected.

The public is reminded to stay away from downed power lines and always assume they are live. Customers should call Dakota Electric’s outage line (651) 463-6201 to report an outage or if they see downed power lines.

ORIGINAL STORY from 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 29.

Less than 2,000 Dakota Electric customers—including a number in Lakeville—had lost power as of 8:15 a.m. Wednesday because of ice build up on power lines, or on branches that came down on power lines.

The main areas affected were western , Apple Valley and Burnsville, "up the 35 corridor," said Dakota Electric public relations representative Joe Miller, but the outages aren't all concentrated in one area.

"It's pretty scattered," he said.

Crews were out working to restore power, Miller said, but he didn't know exactly what the time all power would be restored, though all power should be restored sometime Wednesday.

Outage times likely will vary, he said; crews have to deal with removing trees and the wet lines, he said.

Miller said Dakota Electric will have information on its website for customers to get updates about outages and power restoration.
