Lakeville's Weekly Calendars: Senior Center, Library (July 25)

Each week Lakeville's Senior Center and Heritage Library offers programs for Lakeville residents to take part in. Here's a list of upcoming events.

Heritage Library Programs

Japanese Kites

Children ages 8 – 12 are invited to register for a hands-on art program in which they will learn about and make Japanese style kites presented by ArtStart at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Monday, July 25, 2011, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.  To register visit the Library’s website at www.dakotacounty.us/library/  and click on events calendar or call the library at (952) 891-0360.  Registration begins July 11.

 Wild Robert Chapters and a Craft

Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to listen to a chapter book about a wild magician who haunts an English castle and make a sandpaper castle craft project at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.

The Storytime World of William Steig

Children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to enjoy a program of stories written by William Steig at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m.

Dakota Wild Animals

Children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to meet a variety of live critters and learn about how they live in a program presented by Dakota Wild Animals at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.

Waggin’ Tales

Children of all ages are invited to read to a certified therapy dog at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Saturday, July 30, 2011, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  Research has shown that children improve their reading confidence and fluency when reading in this relaxed environment.  Children will have fifteen minute reading sessions but may read longer if no one is waiting.

Lakeville's Senior Center Programs

Chair Massage - August 1

Chair massage appointments are available at the Lakeville Senior Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The charge is $10 for a 15-minute appointment; please pay when you sign up. We must take appointments consecutively, beginning at 10 a.m. You must cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance or you will be
charged.

"Night to Unite" Kick-off - Tuesday, August 2 at 10:15 a.m.

Traditionally, the Lakeville Senior Center hosts a “Night to Unite” kick-off in collaboration with the Lakeville Police Department on the first Tuesday in August. The celebration will begin on August 2 at 10:15 a.m. with entertainment by Angie Senger, accomplished singer, musician, songwriter and recording artist. During the summer months, Angie entertains around Minnesota and appears regularly at Sandstone’s Midwest Country Music Theater. During the winter months, she performs with her band in Arizona. Angie
has produced and recorded several country CDs, a country gospel CD and a Christmas CD. At 11 a.m., we’ll have a program featuring presentations by the police department and an “Elvis” performance by
Attorney James Backstrom. A delicious sloppy joe lunch will be served afterwards. Please plan to attend this special event, meet your senior center neighbors and maybe win a door prize! Sign up by July 28 so
we know how much food to order.

Amtrak to the Milwaukee Area - Spetmeber 20-23, 2011

Leave early on Sept. 20 to board the Amtrak train for coach class rail service to Milwaukee. By mid-afternoon the train will arrive at the Milwaukee Depot. You will tour the Harley-Davidson Museum® and have dinner at Mader’s German Restaurant. On day two, tour the Jelly Belly Center and the Civil War Museum. Sample treats at the Danish Kringle Bakery and enjoy a Wurlitzer organ concert by Fred Hermes. Do a little shopping, then have dinner at the Harmony House Restaurant. On day three, tour the Villa Terrace and the Renaissance Gardens, stop at the Milwaukee Art Center, have lunch at Watts Tea Room, and tour downtown Milwaukee. Travel to Ft. Atkinson and enjoy dinner and the evening performance of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” at the Fireside Dinner Theater. Return home via motor coach and travel through beautiful fall scenery on the rural roadways of Southwestern Wisconsin. Cost is $755 per person/double, $895 per person/single; a $200 deposit is required by August 1, 2011, with full payment due by August 12. Reservation forms are available at the Lakeville Senior Center.

Branson Fall Adventure - October 5-9, 2011

Eight Branson shows, including Andy Williams with Ann-Margret, Clay Cooper, The Platters and more, plus guided tours and shopping. Deluxe motor coach transportation. Rates start at $679 per person/double, with a $100 deposit due Aug. 1. For more info, call the Lakeville Senior Center at 952-985-4622.

Medica Community Meeting - Thursday, August 4 at 10 a.m.

This meeting is for those individuals interested in learning about Medica’s Medicare options. It is primarily targeted to individuals who may need to enroll in a Medicare insurance program between September-December, 2011. Sign up at the Lakeville Senior Center by Aug. 2 if you plan to attend.

Health Angels Biking Club

In August, meet at the Lakeville Senior Center at 8 a.m. and leave for the ride at 8:30 a.m. The biking
