A run down of upcoming events and classes at Lakeville's Senior Center and Dakota County Heritage Library.

Each week Lakeville's Senior Center and Heritage Library offer programs for Lakeville's residents to take part in. Here's a list of upcoming events.

Heritage Library Programs

Baby Storytime

Babies up to 24 months of age and their caregivers are invited to participate in a special program of stories, songs and activities for the youngest listeners at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m.  Older siblings are welcome to attend.  The twenty minute program will be followed by open playtime with age-appropriate toys.

Fairy Nuff a Tale of Bluebell Wood Chapters and a Craft

Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to listen to a chapter book about an inept fairy, a kidnapped queen, and angry ants and make a regal craft project at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Tuesday, July 12, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.

Dr. Seuss’ Whoville

Children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to enjoy two silly Seuss stories of the inhabitants of microscopic Whoville and get a special plush surprise at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:30 a.m.

Magician Matt Dunn

Children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to enjoy magical illusions performed by Matt Dunn at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.

Lakeville's Senior Center Programs

Pan-O-Prog Babay Crawl-A-Thon

The Lakeville Senior Center is co-hosting the Baby Crawl-A-Thon again this year. This is a fun event that you won’t want to miss! If you have a baby in your family, encourage them to participate. Ribbons and trophies will be awarded. The date is Tuesday, July 5. Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. and the race begins at 10:00 a.m. For more information, call the Senior Center at 952-985-4622.

Book Club with Murray

The Lakeville Senior Center’s book club will meet on Tues., July 5 at 10 a.m. to discuss The Pearl, by John Steinbeck. There will be no book club meeting in August. On September 6 the club will discuss March, by Geraldine Brooks. This group is led by Lakeville Heritage Library’s head librarian, Murray Wilson. New members are welcome.

Foot Care - Wednesday, July 6

“Tender Care for You,” a new foot care company, comes to the Lakeville Senior Center on the first Wednesday and third Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon; their next visit is on July 6. They will do toenail clippings and foot massages. The cost is $30. At your first visit you will receive a punch card, and after 5 visits, you will get your next foot care session 50% off. Pan-O-Prog Bazaar

The Lakeville Senior Center’s annual Pan-O-Prog Bazaar will be held on July 8 and 9, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. For sale at the lunch counter will be cinnamon rolls, coffee, hot dogs, pie, ice cream, and root beer floats. There will be a white elephant sale, craft sale, book sale, bake sale and jewelry sale. Please plan to attend this fun event! The Senior Center is located at 20732 Holt Ave. in downtown Lakeville.

Long Term Care - July 12, 10:15 a.m.

Jeff Hall from the Minnesota School of Business will be at the Lakeville Senior Center to give a presentation on Long Term Care. Sign up at the Senior Center by July 7 if you plan to attend.

Coffee Lecture at the Lakeville Senior Center

July 15, 10 a.m. - Lake Minnetonka’s “Glory Years” - Cost is $5 per person.
Presented by Bob Williams, Excelsior author and historian. A former award-winning newspaper editor, Bob relates the history of Lake Minnetonka and the heydays of steamboats, railroads, hotels and wealthy summer visitors from the South during the 1880s and 18902, on into the 20th century, when the Excelsior Amusement Park was the most popular attraction in Minnesota. Drivers Safety Classes

Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center offers driver improvement courses for mature drivers at the Lakeville Senior Center every month. Register with the MN Highway Safety and Research Center by calling the toll-free number 1-888-234-1294. An 8-hour course will be held at the Senior Center on July 18 & 19, 2011 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. both nights. Cost is $24 per person. Please call early because classes fill quickly! Amtrak to the Milwaukee Area - September 20-23, 2011

Leave early on Sept. 20 to board the Amtrak train for coach class rail service to Milwaukee. By mid-afternoon the train will arrive at the Milwaukee Depot. You will tour the Harley-Davidson Museum® and have dinner at Mader’s German Restaurant. On day two, tour the Jelly Belly Center and the Civil War Museum. Sample treats at the Danish Kringle Bakery and enjoy a Wurlitzer organ concert by Fred Hermes. Do a little shopping, then have dinner at the Harmony House Restaurant. On day three, tour the Villa Terrace and the Renaissance Gardens, stop at the Milwaukee Art Center, have lunch at Watts Tea Room, and tour downtown Milwaukee. Travel to Ft. Atkinson and enjoy dinner and the evening performance of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” at the Fireside Dinner Theater. Return home via motor coach and travel through beautiful fall scenery on the rural roadways of Southwestern Wisconsin. Cost is $755 per person/double, $895 per person/single; a $200 deposit is required by August 1, 2011, with full payment due by August 12. Branson Fall Adventure - October 5-9, 2011

Eight Branson shows, including Andy Williams with Ann-Margret, Clay Cooper, The Platters and more, plus guided tours and shopping. Deluxe motor coach transportation.
