A run down of upcoming events and classes at Lakeville's Senior Center and Dakota County Heritage Library.

Each week Lakeville's Senior Center and Heritage Library offers programs for Lakeville residents to take part in. Here's a list of upcoming events.

Heritage Library Children’s Programs

Bruce the Bug Guy

Children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to enjoy a lively, hands-on program about insects and related arthropods with live critters and fun props presented by Bruce the Bug Guy at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Tuesday, July 5 at 1:30 p.m.

One-Man Band

Children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to enjoy the music of the One-Man Band at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Wednesday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m.  You will marvel as you see one man play the tuba, concertina, high hat cymbal and bass drum all at the same time!

Magic Classes for Children

Children are invited to register for Magic Classes taught by a real magician at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Friday, July 8, 2011.  Children will learn how to perform amazing tricks with everyday objects in this class presented by Steppingstone Theatre.  The class for 9 to 12 year-olds will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon and the class for 6 – 8 year-olds will be from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.  To register visit the Library’s website at www.dakotacounty.us/library/  and click on events calendar or call the library at (952) 891-0360.  Registration begins June 24.

 Lakeville's Senior Center Programs

“Jeseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat"

Don’t let boredom keep you home on a Sunday afternoon! Mark your calendars and travel with us to the Irondale Theater in New Brighton to see “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

The saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n roll, this tale emerges both timely and timeless. You are advised to eat lunch before leaving for the trip. A free cupcake and beverage will be served at intermission in celebration of “Cupcake Sunday.”

Leave the Lakeville Senior Center at 12:15 p.m. and return at 6 p.m. Cost is $34.25 for ages 64 and younger, $30.25 for those 65 and older. Deadline is June 28.

“Branson on the Road" at the Plymouth Playhouse

What do you get when you bring together a fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, rhinestone costumes, hilarious comedy and great classic country bluegrass, rockabilly and gospel music? “Branson on the Road,” of course!

This is the original road show, “Branson on the Road,” a foot-stompin’, hand-clappin’ night of comedy with country, bluegrass and gospel music direct to you! Leave the Lakeville Senior Center at 5:45 p.m. and return at approximately 10:30 p.m. Cost is $49, payable by June 30.

Ucare exercise

Exercise with personal trainer Connie on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at the Lakeville Senior Center from 3-4 p.m. Dates are July 5, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28. (No class on July 7.) Have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Weights, elastic tubing with handles and a chair are used for seated and/or standing support.

Exercise is the key to youthfulness, good health and staying fit. So get up off your couch and join us in the crusade to be happy, healthy and fit! These classes are free; deadline for sign-up is July 1.

Health Angels biking club

In July, meet at the Lakeville Senior Center at 8 a.m. and leave for the ride at 8:30 a.m. The biking schedule for July is:

July 1: Luce Line State Trail 20+ mi.
July 6: Hopkins/Mpls Lakes Loop & Ballgame 22 mi.
July 8: TheoWorth/Vic. Mem/River 20 mi.
July 13: N Mpls to Coon Rapids Dam 21 mi.
July 15: Cannon Grandkids’ Ride 20+ mi.
July 2:0 Gateway West 19 mi.
July 22: Big River-Long 17-27 mi.
July 27: M-haha Falls/Stone Arch Loop 22 mi.
July 29: Dakota (MS-Tram) 20-25 mi.

Singles group

Join the “Prime Time Friends” singles group for fun activities each month. Sign up at the Lakeville Senior Center if you plan to attend. Call Sharon at 651-322-4769 if you have any questions, and let us know about other places you’d like to go.

July 2, 4-6 pm Saturday Happy Hour Cherokee Sirloin Room, 4625 Nichols Rd, Eagan.

July 9, Wabasha Street Caves Tour & St. Paul Gangster Tour Caves tour starts at 11 a.m., cost is $6. Gangster tour begins at noon, cost is $24. Meet at the Senior Center at 10 a.m. to carpool. Reservations are required; call Sharon.

July 16, Lunch & Lock Cruise, Harriet Island, St. Paul. Meet at the Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. to carpool. Cost is $41. Reservations are required; call Sharon.
