Lakeville's Calendar: Senior Center, Library (July 5)

Each week Lakeville's Senior Center and Heritage Library offers programs for Lakeville residents to take part in. Here's a list of upcoming events.

Heritage Library Children's Programs

Book Bingo for Kids

Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to play games of Bingo for gently used book prizes at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Monday, July 18, 2011, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  Children will be able to win up to three books at this event.

Children of all ages are invited to enjoy the fractured fairy tale The Little Mermaid presented by Schiffelly Puppets at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.
 
Meet the Instruments with Groth Music

Children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to explore a variety of musical instruments with the staff of Groth Music at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  Families of instruments will be introduced and demonstrated, then children will get a chance to play as many as they would like.
 
Craft Fair for Children and Teens

Children and Teens must register in advance to sell their handmade crafts at the outdoor craft fair at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Thursday, July 21, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  All crafts will be priced at $2.00 or lower. To register visit the Library’s website at www.dakotacounty.us/library/  and click on events calendar or call the library at (952) 891-0360.  Browsers and buyers of all ages are welcome.
 
Think Like a Scientist

Children ages 8 – 12 are invited to Think Like a Scientist as they explore scientific methods in everyday life with hands-on activities led by University of St. Thomas Professor Jeffrey Jalkio at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Friday, July 22, 2011, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Lakeville's Senior Center Programs

Health Insurance Counseling

Health insurance counseling to Medicare beneficiaries will be provided by state-certified Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging staff or volunteers, free of charge, at the Lakeville Senior Center on certain Mondays of each month from 9 a.m.-noon (next session is on July 11.) Counselors will assist with the basics of Medicare and Medical Assistance, choosing a supplement and/or a Part D plan, processing of claims, assisting with forms, and more. To make a one-hour appointment, call the Center at 952-985-4622.

Diner's Club - Thursday, July 14

Do you enjoy eating out, but hate to eat alone? Then, join the Lakeville Senior Center’s Diner’s Club! Both singles and couples are invited. Our next get-together will be at the Chart House in Lakeville. Meet at the restaurant on July 14 at 5:30 p.m. Sign up by July 11 so reservations can be made.

Lunch and Learn - Thursday, July 14 at 12:30 p.m.

Dr. Troy Taffe from Lakeville Family Chiropractic invites you to join him for lunch at the Lakeville Senior Center. Get your healthcare questions answered as you share a pleasant and educational meal. Sign up at the Senior Center by July 11 if you plan to attend.

Pops Orchestra Concert - Tuesday, July 19

Travel to Nicollet Island to hear the wonderful sounds of the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra. The concert will be held in the Nicollet Island Pavilion, a beautiful location next to the river. This terrific outing also includes free refreshments (donuts and coffee) and door prizes! Leave the Lakeville Senior Center at 8:45 a.m. and return at approximately 12:30 p.m. Cost is $13, payable by July 12. Sign up early, because space is limited!

Hearing Tests

Jayne Bongers from Advantage Care Hearing will be at the Lakeville Senior Center on the second Wednesday of each month to conduct hearing checks, this month on July 13 from 1-3 p.m. Besides the hearing checks, she will do behind-the-ear hearing aid re-tubing for the nominal price of $3, hearing aid cleaning, and batteries will be available for purchase. Lakeville Senior Center's Motorcycle Club

Rides will be on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. On July 14, meet at the Senior Center at 9 a.m. and depart at 9:30 a.m. for a long ride (destination to be determined.) On July 28, meet at the Senior Center at 1 p.m. and depart at 1:30 p.m. for a short ride (destination to be determined.) Watercolor Classes (Taught by Tina Sheppard)

Watercolor classes will be held on the following dates from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Lakeville Senior Center.

Pick and choose the class you want or sign up for all three.
July 22 “Gentle Waters” (July 15 deadline.)
July 29 “Daisies in a Field” (July 22 d’line.)
Aug. 5 “Blue House” (July 29 deadline.)

The cost of each class is $15.00. We need a minimum of three students for these classes. See the sign-up table at the Senior Center for painting project pictures.
