Lakeville Weather: A Little Snow Saturday, Then More of the Same

The National Weather Service was forecasting less than a half-inch of the white stuff Saturday, then a return to dry weather through at least Thanksgiving Day.

Yes, there is snow in the forecast for Lakeville.

But, forecasters aren’t calling for much of it.

As of midday Friday, the National Weather Service in Chanhassen predicted that Lakeville and its Dakota County neighbors would receive less than a half-inch of snow on Saturday, with most of it coming after 3 p.m.

The Twin Cities metropolitan area, as well as western Minnesota, is under hazardous weather outlook, as heavier snow is predicted to fall north and west of the area Saturday. As much as four to six inches could fall in cities like Morris, Little Falls and St. Cloud.

Winter storm watches and warnings are posted for North Dakota and South Dakota.

But after Saturday night, NWS says, there isn’t any white stuff in the forecast for Lakeville for the foreseeable future, including Thanksgiving Day. That means dry roads and clear skies could be in store for residents planning to head out of town for the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The lack of snow continues a spell of below-average precipitation for Lakeville and the rest of southern Minnesota.

According to NWS, the Twin Cities metropolitan area has received a trace of snow this season, which is 4.7 inches below normal. At this time last year, 8.1 inches had already fallen.

Counting all precipitation, the metropolitan area has received 1.06 inches of moisture since Sept. 1, which is 5.48 inches below normal.

The NWS forecast for Lakeville calls for mostly cloudy skies and a low of 29 degrees tonight. For Saturday, a mixed bag of drizzle and snow and a high near 35 is in the forecast.
