Each week Lakeville's Senior Center and Heritage Library offers programs for Lakeville residents to take part in. Here's a list of upcoming events.

Heritage Library Children's Programs

Music and Movement for Children

Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to enjoy an active program of music and movement at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 3:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Coffee Lecture at the Lakeville Senior Center

November 15, 10 a.m. - The JFK Assassination - “The Mystery and Legend”
Presented by David Jones, a native of St. Peter, MN and a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College. Where were you when John F. Kennedy was assassinated? Nearly 50 years later, this event still sparks discussion and controversy. Join us for a balanced discussion of one of the pivotal events of the 20th century. Cost is $5.00; sign up with payment by November 10. For more information, call the Senior Center at 952-985-4622.

American Swedish Institute - Wednesday, December 7.

Take a guided tour of The Turnblad Mansion and the American Swedish Institute. Step back in time and experience the exquisite 33-room mansion. Learn about the role of Swedish and other immigrants in Minnesota’s history. Then, spend some time in the Bokhandel Gift Shop before having lunch at the Institute. After lunch, visit Macy’s downtown Minneapolis store and see the 8th floor auditorium holiday display. There are always elaborate holiday animated displays with magic for all ages. Take a little time to shop at Macy’s downtown Minneapolis. Leave the Lakeville Senior Center at 9:15 a.m. and return at 3:15 p.m. Cost is $58; sign up by November 11.

Chair Massage - November 7.

Chair massage appointments are available at the Lakeville Senior Center between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday, November 7. The charge is $10 for a 15-minute appointment; please pay when you sign up. We must take appointments consecutively, beginning at 10 a.m. You must cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance or you will be charged.

Diner's Club - Thursday, November 10.

Do you enjoy eating out, but hate to eat alone? Then, join the Lakeville Senior Center’s Diner’s Club! Both singles and couples are invited. Our next get-together will be at Porter Creek in Burnsville. Meet at the restaurant on Nov. 10 at 5:00 p.m. Sign up by November 8 so reservations can be made.

Hearing Tests

Jayne Bongers from Advantage Care Hearing will be at the Lakeville Senior Center on the second Wednesday of each month to conduct hearing checks, this month on November 9 from 1-3 p.m. Besides the hearing checks, she will do behind-the-ear hearing aid re-tubing for the nominal price of $3, hearing aid cleaning, and batteries will be available for purchase. 55 Plus Fitness Classes

This one-hour class, offered twice per week at the Lakeville Senior Center, is presented by Personal Fitness Solutions and is taught by a certified and trained instructor who understands the needs of seniors. The classes include cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and balance exercises, which are all effective at improving health, fitness, and the quality of life. Classes are ongoing and are held on Monday and Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. A new 16-class session will begin on November 14. The cost is $56.00, payable to City of Lakeville, due by November 9. You will be required to purchase a set of ankle/wrist weights and a resistance band unless you already have them.

New York City Tour, Featuring 9-11 Memorial - September 6-11, 2012

Includes two Broadway shows, guided tours that include Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Greenwich Village, Wall Street, Metropolitan Museum and more.
