Lakeville's Weekly Calendar: Senior Center, Library (Oct. 21)

Each week Lakeville's Senior Center and Heritage Library offers programs for Lakeville residents to take part in. Here's a list of upcoming events.

Heritage Library Programs

Storytime for 2s & 3s

Children ages 2 & 3 and their parents/caregivers and siblings are invited to enjoy half-hour storytime programs at the Dakota County in Lakeville on Wednesdays, November 2, 9, 16, & 30, 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.  Stories, songs, rhymes and activities chosen specifically for this energetic age group will be shared each week.

Storytime for 4s, 5s & 6s

Children ages 4, 5, & 6 are invited to enjoy half-hour storytime programs at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Wednesdays, November 2, 9, 16, & 30, 11:30 a.m.- noon.  Stories, songs and activities that build preschool literacy skills will be included each week.  Parents/caregivers and younger siblings may attend.

Legos and Duplos

Children of all ages are invited to show off their creativity by building with Lego and Duplo blocks at the Dakota County Heritage Library in Lakeville on Friday, November 4, 10:00 – noon.  Bring your camera to preserve your creations!

Lakeville Senior Center Programs

Austin Holiday - Wednesday, November 16

Arrive at Owatonna’s Russell Stover Candy Store, Sip coffee and you shop for some sweet treats. Each person will receive a discount coupon; candy is always a great gift for the holiday season. Continue on to Austin, MN and tour the private home of Bill and Helen Holder to view over 500 Nativity sets from around the world. Have a grilled chicken lunch at the Old Mill Restaurant located in the historic Ramsey Flour Mill on the Red Cedar River. After lunch, arrive at the Teddy Bear House, where you will see over 400 Teddy bears, many in their Christmas finery. Leave the Lakeville Senior Center at 8:30 a.m. and return at 4:45 p.m. Cost is $57; deadline is October 31.

Understanding Psoriasis - Friday, November 4, 10:15 a.m.

Psoriasis is not just skin deep! During this interactive presentation at the Lakeville Senior Center, you will learn about signs and symptoms of psoriasis, various treatment options, as well as lifestyle strategies that enable psoriasis patients to lead healthier and happier lives. A hot breakfast will be provided. Presented by Dianne Burd, a clinical social worker with Abbott Laboratories. Deadline for sign up is October 31.

UCare Exercise

Exercise with a trained instructor on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1-2 p.m. A new session begins on November 7 and continues through December 21. Have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Weights, elastic tubing with handles and a chair are used for seated and/or standing support. Exercise is the key to youthfulness, good health and staying fit. Join us in the crusade to be happy, healthy
and fit! These classes are free; deadline for sign-up is November 1.

55 Plus Fitness Classes

This one-hour class, offered twice per week at the Lakeville Senior Center, is presented by Personal Fitness Solutions and is taught by a certified and trained instructor who understands the needs of seniors. The classes include cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and balance exercises, which are all effective at improving health, fitness, and the quality of life. Classes are ongoing and are held on Monday and Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. A new 16-class session will begin on November 14. The cost is $56.00, payable to City of Lakeville, due by Nov. 9. You will be required to purchase a set of ankle/wrist weights and a resistance band unless you already have them.
