Contractor at Lakeville Jobsite Unhurt After Partial Trench Collapse

Initial reports off police scanners reported the victim of the collapse was a city employee.

9:53 a.m. UPDATE

A Lakeville city official confirmed the victim of a partial trench collapse this morning was not a city employee, but a private contractor excavating a jobsite at the corner of 212th St. W. and Idaho Avenue.

No official word on the condition of the worker, but a worker on the jobsite said he was OK and "everything was fine."

Chris Petree, Lakeville's director of said he had heard about the incident but that it didn't involve any city employees.

The original report of the trench collapse occurred around 8:50 a.m. with reports of a man buried to his neck and in need of rescue.

But the scene at 9:35 a.m. was business as usual with emergency crews having already left and construction on site progressing as normal.

Two workers on the site declined to comment about the incident beyond saying things were OK.

A call to the Lakeville Police Department wasn't immediately returned.

Pertee said in a serious incident, OSHA representatives would generally be on site to investigate. It wasn't clear if they had arrived, or were coming.
