It's Beginning to Look Like the Holidays

Lakeville's annual holiday lighting ceremony is planned for 6 p.m. today at Pioneer Plaza.

It’s going to begin looking a lot like the holiday season in downtown Lakeville Thursday night.

The city’s annual holiday lighting ceremony is planned to begin at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Plaza, at the intersection of Holyoke Avenue and 208th Street.

The Downtown Lakeville Business Association sponsors the annual holiday kickoff, with assistance from the Lakeville Parks and Recreation Department.

The lighting ceremony is an event Lakeville Parks and Recreation Director Steve Michaud said he looks forward to annually.

“It’s a fun night to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season,” he said. “It’s an event that families enjoy and it’s an opportunity to see a premier singing group.”

In addition to taking part in the city’s annual lighting ceremony, participants will be treated to a performance by the Lakeville North Now and Then Singers and to free refreshments courtesy of the Main Street Coffee Cafe. And, it serves an excuse for residents to get downtown and explore local businesses.

Thursday evening’s weather forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 30s. Basically, a typical mid-November night.

“Hopefully, we will have a good night, because we have all kinds of weather for the ceremony,” said Michaud. “We’ve had rain in the past, and that isn’t fun for anyone.”

The lighting ceremony kicks off what promises to be a busy holiday period in Lakeville.

Among the events planned in the coming weeks include:

• Holiday on Main, on Saturday, Dec. 3, sponsored by the Downtown Lakeville Business Association—The Lakeville Mall will play host to Santa Claus, Mrs. Santa, reindeer, trolley rides, face painters and musical performances. In addition, Holly’s Centre Stage Dance will have a recital at the .

• Cookies for Santa, Saturday, Dec. 10, sponsored by the Lakeville Parks and Recreation Department—Children ages 2 to 7, accompanied by an adult, will decorate cookies with Santa and share a story with Mrs. Santa.

• The Lakeville Parks and Recreation Department has a number of other holiday activities planned. Information can be found in this week’s edition of the Messages newsletter, which can be found by clicking here.
