Heat Advisory, Red Flag Warning in Effect Through Tuesday Evening

The National Weather Service says Tuesday’s high temperatures will reach the low to mid 90s.

Less than two weeks after the city just missed a snowstorm, Lakeville residents will face potentially record-breaking heat and a fire risk on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory, red flag warning and hazardous weather outlook.

Here is the text of the heat advisory:

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING.
* TEMPERATURE: LOWER TO MIDDLE 90S.
* IMPACTS: PEOPLE OUTSIDE MAY BECOME QUICKLY DEHYDRATED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.

...RED FLAG WARNING FOR MUCH OF MINNESOTA THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING....HOT AND WINDY CONDITIONS WILL ARRIVE THIS AFTERNOON WITH TEMPERATURES EXPECTED TO REACH THE UPPER 80S TO MIDDLE 90S.

SOUTHWEST TO WEST WINDS FROM 15 TO 25 MPH AND GUSTS OF 30 TO NEAR 40 MPH ARE FORECAST ALONG WITH MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES NEAR 20 PERCENT. THIS WILL RESULT IN DANGEROUS WILDFIRE CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING ACROSS MUCH OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA.

HOT...DRY...AND WINDY CONDITIONS WILL CREATE DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY...AND COULD CAUSE SOME HEAT STRESS ON PEOPLE OUTDOORS.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY
MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED BEGINNING LATE THURSDAY AND LASTING THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. SEVERE WEATHER IS POSSIBLE.

Today’s intense heat isn’t expected to stay long, as high temperatures for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are predicted to be in the high 70s.
