ORIGINAL STORY (TUESDAY): Lakeville’s forecast for the next few days would be more fitting of the middle of March, not the first few days of May.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen is calling for temperatures to fall into the 30s on Wednesday, with snow accumulating between three and five inches by Thursday morning.

Another inch of snow could fall by mid-day Thursday.

No, this is not a joke.

As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, the weather service had not issued any hazardous weather alerts for the metro.

If you are wondering, Tuesday's high temperature at Airlake Airport was 70 degrees.

SNOW IN MAY?

The weather service says accumulating snow in Lakeville and the Twin Cities in May is rare.

The last time the metro area received more than a trace of snow during the month was May 5, 1991.

You must go back to May 2, 1976 for the last time more than an inch of snow fell during the month.

No wonder some folks are calling this the winter that won’t end.

The weather service says high temperatures on Thursday through Saturday won’t budge above the 40s, and a chance of snow lingers into Friday night.
