Dakota Co., Metro Agencies to Discuss Business, Redevelopment around Red Line Transit

The METRO Red Line is seeing solid numbers in ridership in its inaugural year. Now, cities and counties around the south end of the Twin Cities are hoping to capitalize with business and residential development in the area.

Dakota County, Hennepin County, Dakota County Community Development Agency, and the cities of Bloomington, Eagan, Apple Valley, and Lakeville are conducting a study along the METRO Red Line, which recently brought station-to-station bus rapid transit service to Cedar Avenue.

The METRO Red Line Market and Development Study, which is funded by the Corridors of Opportunity initiative of the Metropolitan Council, is identifying strategies to encourage transit-supportive development and redevelopment around six stations along the route: Lakeville-Cedar in Lakeville (future Red Line station); Apple Valley Transit Station, 147th Street and 140th Street in Apple Valley; Cedar Grove Transit Station in Eagan; and Mall of America Transit Station in Bloomington. The final report for the study will be published this fall.

The public is invited to learn more about the project, view draft recommendations and share comments on the future of station areas at an open house from 4–6 p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Apple Valley Transit Station, 15450 Cedar Ave. S., Apple Valley. Visitors can come and go at any time during the event.
