Communities Rally to Support Lakeville Resource Center

Community-wide involvement is ensuring local families  are able to celebrate the Holidays without Hunger

The Lakeville area has come out in full force to help those in need this holiday season by creating and participating in food and fund drives for the Lakeville Resource Center, located on Holyoke Avenue in the Downtown Lakeville Mall.

“The Lakeville Resource Center and Pantry has been at our location in downtown Lakeville for just over two years and we have not only seen the need grow significantly—from serving a handful of families to now over 300 families a month—but the outpouring of generosity from the community continues to grow and has been quite amazing,” says Program Manager Mary Freeman.

“We have schools, businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals really opening their hearts to their neighbors in need,” says Executive Director Lisa Horn. “Participation in Project Pantry: Holidays without Hunger has been outstanding.”

And people of all ages have been involved. In November, The Lakeville Lions donated 60 Thanksgiving baskets; families and staff at Century Middle school and Lakeview Elementary school both held very successful food drives for a combined donation total of over 2600 lbs;  Performance Papers employee’s food and fund drive netted 5,000+ lbs of food. “These are just some examples of the kindness and generosity that really show how aware—and responding—Lakeville is to those locally in need of food support.” Horn says.
