This is a run down as well as copies of Lakeville's school board and city council agendas for next week so you can be informed, or get involved in your community's government.Lakeville's City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 29, will be reviewing applications of those interested in filling the group's open seat. The work session for the council begins at 6 p.m. at Lakeville's City Hall. In addition to discussing applicants, the group will discuss meeting protocol, board and commission appointments, legislative priorities, and other issues.
Tuesday's going to be a busy day for Lakeville's elected officials. The School Board has a special session just prior to its regular meeting on Jan. 19, and the City Council meeting will also be held on Tuesday since Monday—the council's normal meeting day—is the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday and city offices are closed. A mix-up by the city of Lakeville and Dakota County resulted in residents getting the wrong date printed on their 2012 tax statements for the city's 2012 Truth in Taxation hearing. As a result, the city is encouraging residents who want to talk about taxes to attend the Dec. 17 meeting. The City Council held Lakeville's annual tax hearing during its Dec. 3 meeting, however, tax statements form the county stated the city's Truth in Taxation hearing was scheduled for Dec. 4. Lakeville's School Board has two meetings on Tuesday, and both are doozies. At 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the district office, the School Board will hold a special session where the group will discuss a number of items, the most notable being next year's academic calendar, which could be trimmed by two or three educational days, as requested by Education Minnesota Lakeville, the district's teacher's union. The city has three separate meetings this week, highlighted by the Dec. 3 City Council meeting where the annual Truth in Taxation hearing will be held. The regular meeting of the City Council will start at 7 p.m. at Lakeville City Hall and during the taxation hearing, residents can come to get more information about the property tax levy and ask questions and raise concerns about property taxes. Lakeville's City Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall for a somewhat routine meeting where the group is expected to approve two new plats in different stages of development. First, the council will consider a resolution approving preliminary and final plat of a new, but small housing development called Kenora Ridge. Lakeville School Board meets at 4:30 p.m. this evening at the district office for a work session where the board will hold a grievence hearing for Lakeville's teachers union, Education Minnesota Lakeville. The issue has to do with teachers who travel between Kenwood Trail and McGuire middle schools. Lakeville’s School Board will be holding two work sessions this week to dig deeper into the $15.8 million in budget cuts for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years that were presented last week by district administrators. The first work session will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18, and the second will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20. The Lakeville Area Public School District’s school board will hold it’s regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at the district’s administrative office. On the agenda for the meeting, which is open to the public, is the election of school board officers for 2011. There’s currently a stalemate over chairmanship of the board between current chair Judy Keliher and 4-year-veteran of the board, Roz Peterson.
