Sharing snapshots from a recent vacation isn't a new idea. But being rewarded for it is.

Patch has partnered with Caribou CoffeeWater Street InnFoodies on Foot and Northern Vineyards Winery to sweeten the idea of sharing.

On Monday, we asked Patch users to upload their favorite vacation photos from this summer. After 113 submissions in less than three days, Northfield Patch Editor Corey Butler Jr. and Minnesota Associate Regional Editor Kevira Voegele narrowed the field to 10 photos for voting.

Now we're asking you to leave a comment at the bottom of this page telling us which is your favorite photo (numbered 1-10 above). You surely could just leave the number, but go ahead and tell us why you like the photo. Be sure to share the page with all your friends to see if you can drum up more support for your favorite snapshot. Voting ends 9 p.m. Sunday.

Check out Week 1's finalists

Then on Monday we'll announce the winner from the second week. He or she will receive a $25 Caribou Coffee gift card. We'll also kick off the third week of nominations on Monday. There were a lot of great photos the first two weeks, so don't be discouraged if you weren't selected and be sure to try again next week because we're having four weekly contests all for $25 Caribou Coffee gift cards.

After the four weeks, the winners face off for seven days of voting. The photo that collects the most comments of support gets the photographer a grand prize getaway to Stillwater valued up to $500 with an overnight stay at Water Street Inn, a Foodies on Foot adventure and a tour at Northern Vineyards Winery.

And, some of the legal details:

  • Open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older.
  • To enter, upload your summer vacation photos to the “Patch's Summer Vacation Photo Contest“ post on any of the 25 Minnesota Patch sites. Entrants can only submit photos of their own original photos, which must be from this summer. The use of any agencies or automated software to submit entries will void all entries submitted by that person.
  • All entries must be received by 9 p.m. CDT Wednesday of the competing week.
  • Four weekly winners will receive a $25 gift card to Caribou Coffee.
  • One grand prize winner selected from the weekly winners will receive a grand prize valued up to $500. The grand prize includes an overnight stay at Water Street Inn, a Foodies on Foot adventure and a tour at Northern Vineyards Winery, all located in Stillwater. Transportation to/from Stillwater is not included in the prize and will be the responsibility of the winner.

See the attached PDF for complete Official Rules.

Of course, we encourage you to share the link with your friends and family and brag about your great photo. Tell Patch and community members something awesome about your photograph in comments section below.

The "enter your email address" box will not accept my e-address. It repeatedly tells me to Enter a valid email address. I even tried a secondary e-address :(

#8 is the only one (this week) that both captures the joy of a summer vacation and doesn't look like it's the work of a professional. Because of that, it has my vote this week.

K Dempsey, why do you take offense to professional photographers? This contest isn't for "amateurs only". It's wonderful that your pick is #8 but it shouldn't have anything to do with whether it was shot by an amateur or professional photographer.

Like Nancy, I'm also a little confused by this. Professional photographers take summer vacations too. Not to mention that, quite frankly, only one of these photos looks like it is "professional quality" from a technical standpoint in my opinion. (I'm going to skip saying which one and why as there's no point in singling anyone out and offending the rest).

Independent of that, I'm going to vote #10 for one simple (and selfish) reason: It's close to where my wife and I spent our honeymoon 14 years ago.

I love #2 because it is an event involving people not just a landscape. The moment is captured so well.. the quiet of an evening on a lake, peaceful and calm. I think the shots of children are captivating but children always are. Number 2 takes you right to the lake and lets you share the calm.

You describe the picture like you were there too. That is exactly what it was like and every time I see this picture I can remember the evening. Thank you I appreciated the comment.

I agree with the vote for #2. It looks like a perfect summer afternoon. It doesn't look like a professional photographer took it but maybe like the Mom was just capturing a photo of her family. It's looks natural. I love the light. It's a memory I'd love to have of my family. Whether it wins or not, I think it's a winner.

Thank you for the comment. You were 100% right. My husband is in the military and was deployed two days later. I was trying to get a picture of the family to remember our time away. They didn't even know I was taking a picture.

Number 10 is beautiful. Definitely something I would get poster-sized and hang on a wall in my house. The reflections of the clouds on the water, mountains in the background...pure artwork. I absolutely love this picture. It has a very calm feeling to it! Good work Katie, your picture is BEAUTIFUL!

Success is what happens when 10,000 hours of preparation meet with one moment of opportunity.

Three key elements that are needed for a great photograph... Lighting, composition, and imagination.

Do not concern yourself with the questions, "What is art?" or "Who is an artist?" Everything is art. If what you see and do comes from your heart, you are an artist.
